The Weave alternative for medical practices
Weave rings the desk. Somebody picks up, opens the EMR, finds the patient, checks the schedule, moves the appointment, and calls back.
Caesar’s agent does those steps. It finds the patient, searches your live open slots, books, writes it back to your EMR, and confirms with the patient.
That is the difference this page is about. There is a second one that matters more if you are a medical practice, and it comes straight off Weave’s own page.
At a glance
Caesar Health
An Autonomous Practice Management System (aPMS): AI agents that execute the administrative surface around the chart — phone, SMS, fax, intake, scheduling and clinical documentation — alongside your existing EMR. The EMR stays the system of record. Nothing is migrated.
Weave
Weave (NYSE: WEAV) is a patient communications platform for healthcare practices, built around a phone system. Its own industry pages cover medical, dermatology, ophthalmology, primary care, podiatry, orthopedics, plastic surgery, physical therapy, mental health and med spas, and its published integration directory names medical systems including athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, ModMed, Nextech, AdvancedMD and DrChrono.
On 28 May 2026 Weave launched an Omnichannel AI Receptionist built with Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform.
The part a medical practice needs to read first
Weave’s AI Receptionist page carries a banner and a waitlist link. Both are Weave’s own words, read on 1 September 2026:
"Early access now available for Dentrix, Eaglesoft and Open Dental users!"
And, for everyone else — Weave asks "Using software other than Open Dental, Eaglesoft, or Dentrix?" and answers "AI Receptionist will be available for you, soon!" beside a "Join the waitlist" link.
Three feature lines on that page carry badges:
- "Dental offices only" — on "Automatically book and reschedule appointments right to your calendar."
- "Coming soon" — on collecting payments over the phone.
- "Coming soon" — on identifying and switching between languages in real time.
- "Coming soon" — on automated follow-ups to patients with unscheduled treatment.
Dentrix, Eaglesoft and Open Dental are dental practice-management systems. If you run a dermatology, ophthalmology, orthopedic or primary-care practice, Weave’s own page puts you on the waitlist.
That is not a criticism of the product. It is a sequencing decision by a company whose largest segment is dental, and the same pattern shows up elsewhere on Weave’s own pricing page, where Insurance Verification and Practice Analytics are both labelled "dental only," alongside optometry-only and veterinary-only features.
The point for a buyer is narrow and practical: the AI you are being shown in a Weave demo may not be the AI you can buy for your specialty this quarter. Ask which of it is live on your practice-management system today, and get the answer in writing.
The difference that survives the demo
Every vendor in this category now has an AI that answers the phone. Weave has one. So do we. Anyone selling "AI that picks up" as a unique thing in 2026 is a year behind the market.
The question is what the AI finishes once it has answered.
Caesar’s agents are wired into the EMR itself. On a call or a text, the agent finds the patient or creates a new one, searches your live open slots, books, reschedules or cancels, captures insurance, and writes the result into the chart. Nobody is assigned a task afterwards. There is no queue of requests waiting for a person to action in the morning.
Weave’s own FAQ describes its scheduling reach as "your Weave calendar (and supported integrated systems)," in real time. Ask which of your systems is a supported integrated system, and ask to watch a booking land in your schedule during the demo rather than in a generic instance.
Side by side
This table compares the AI front-office layer only — the thing both companies are selling into the same conversation. Weave’s platform is broader than these rows; its full published feature set is on Weave’s own pricing page.
| Caesar Health | Weave AI Receptionist | |
|---|---|---|
| Status | In production on specialty medical EMRs | Early access |

| Captures insurance in the conversation | Yes | Not described on the AI Receptionist page. Weave sells Insurance Verification as a platform feature, labelled "dental only" on its pricing page |
| Escalation to staff | Warm transfer | Hands off with a conversation summary |
| Languages | English today; additional languages on the roadmap | Multilingual badged "Coming soon" |
| Inbound fax read, classified and filed to the chart | Yes | No published claim |

Weave figures as published on 1 September 2026. "No published claim" means the capability is not described on Weave’s AI Receptionist page — not that it does not exist. Ask Weave.
Where Weave is strong, plainly
You will find this out on a demo anyway, and a comparison page that pretends otherwise is not worth reading.
Weave is a phone company. VoIP handsets, phone tree, call queue, call analytics, Call Pop on ring, softphones, hardware in the box. Its Ultimate plan includes up to 15 phones. That is a decade of telephony engineering and it is real.
Weave is broad. Reviews, text-to-pay and online bill pay, buy-now-pay-later, digital forms, email marketing, team chat, fax, bulk texting by tier, an ASAP list, recall. One vendor, one bill.
Weave publishes a starting price. Plans start from $199 per month, with per-plan pricing quoted.
If a single vendor covering phones, payments and reviews is what you are shopping for, Weave is a straightforward answer and this page will not talk you out of it.
Which is the right fit?
Choose Weave if…
You want your phone system, your payment terminal and your review requests from one vendor on one invoice. You are a dental practice on Dentrix, Eaglesoft or Open Dental, where the AI Receptionist is available today and the auto-booking badge applies to you. You want a published starting price and hardware included in the plan.
Choose Caesar Health if…
You are a medical practice and you want the AI that answers your phone to finish the job in your EMR this quarter, not on a waitlist. Your specialty EMR — dermatology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, primary care — is where the appointment has to land, and a booking that stops at a request in a queue does not help you.
Also choose Caesar Health if the work you need covered runs past the call. Faxes arriving and needing to be read and filed to the right chart. Intake documents and insurance cards extracted before the visit. The note written into the chart on the same platform as everything above.
How a switch actually works
Your EMR does not move. Your phone number does not move.
You forward your line to Caesar or assign it. Nothing is ported to us, and there is no migration project. Caesar connects to the EMR you already run and takes the conversations from there.
Start with one workflow. Rescheduling is usually the fastest to prove, because it is the one your front desk does most and enjoys least.
One thing worth reading before you cancel anything: Weave’s own VoIP Service Terms require an account "active and in good standing in order to port out your number," and warn that on cancellation before the port completes a number "may be immediately released and be unavailable for porting." If your main number lives at Weave, sequence the port before the cancellation.
What to ask on either demo
Comparison tables age. These questions do not.
- Is the AI live on my practice-management system today, or am I on a waitlist? Get the answer in writing, with a date.
- Show me a booking land in my schedule. Live, in my system, not in a demo instance.
- When the AI cannot finish the request, what happens? A warm transfer, or a task created for someone to work tomorrow?
- Which features are labelled by vertical? Ask specifically which capabilities are dental-only, optometry-only or veterinary-only on the plan being quoted.
- Which AI receptionist am I being sold? Weave markets two — the Omnichannel AI Receptionist and TrueLark. Ask which one covers your system.
- What does it cost and which plan is it on? The AI Receptionist does not appear in Weave’s published plan comparison.
- Who reads the faxes and the intake forms? Ask both vendors.
Frequently asked questions
Is Caesar Health a Weave alternative?+
For the AI that talks to your patients and completes their requests — calls, texting, booking, reminders, campaigns, fax and intake — yes. Caesar is not a like-for-like swap for everything on a Weave invoice: Weave also sells a phone system, patient payments and a reviews product, and those are separate purchases. Most medical practices evaluating both are asking a narrower question, which is who answers the phone and whether the answer ends in the chart.
Does Weave’s AI Receptionist work with my medical EMR?+
Weave’s own page says early access is available for Dentrix, Eaglesoft and Open Dental users, and directs everyone else to a waitlist, promising it "will be available for you, soon!" Weave’s broader platform does integrate with medical systems — its published directory names athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, ModMed, Nextech, AdvancedMD and DrChrono among others. The AI Receptionist and the platform are not the same question, so ask both.
Can Weave’s AI Receptionist book appointments for a medical practice?+
Weave’s FAQ says it reaches "your Weave calendar (and supported integrated systems)" in real time. On the same page, the feature line "Automatically book and reschedule appointments right to your calendar" carries a "Dental offices only" badge. Ask Weave directly which of your systems is supported and what booking looks like for your specialty today.
What does Weave cost?+
As published on 1 September 2026, Weave’s plans start from $199 per month, with Pro, Elite and Ultimate priced by quote. The AI Receptionist is not listed as a line in Weave’s published plan comparison, so ask what it adds and on which tier it sits. Caesar Health’s pricing is at caesarhealth.com/pricing.
Do I have to leave Weave to run Caesar Health?+
No. If you are on Weave mainly for the phones, the payments and the reviews, Caesar runs alongside it. You forward the line you want the agent to answer. Practices that consolidate usually do it after the agent has proved itself on one workflow, not before.
What happens to our main phone number?+
It stays where it is. You forward the line to Caesar or assign it — nothing is ported to us. If you are leaving a VoIP vendor later, read that contract first. Weave’s VoIP terms require your account to be active and in good standing to port a number out.
Our patients are older and call instead of texting. Does this help?+
Yes, and not because the AI picks up. It is that the agent finishes the call — finds them in your EMR, reads the real schedule, books, and confirms. Patients who prefer text get the same thing over text.
Do I have to replace my EMR to use Caesar Health?+
No. Caesar’s agents run alongside your existing EMR, reading and writing through a FHIR API, HL7 v2 messaging, direct database access, or an interface-level layer where a system has no usable API. Your EMR stays the system of record and there is no data migration.
