The Dialpad alternative for medical practices
Dialpad is a business phone and contact center platform with AI agents, and it publishes EHR connectors for Epic, athenahealth and NextGen. Your team answers, and the connector logs the call.
Caesar’s agent answers, books in the EHR and files faxes to the chart, for medical practices only. This page shows what each puts on the chart, in Dialpad’s own words and dates.

Dialpad
Dialpad describes itself as an “AI platform for customer experience that brings together contact center, communications, AI Agents, real-time AI, conversation intelligence, analytics, and workflow automation.”
Dialpad lists EHR connectors for Epic, athenahealth, NextGen and others, several powered by NovelVox, and prices per user per month with AI Agents sold as conversation credits.
The decision
Dialpad is a business phone and contact center platform with AI. Caesar Health is an agent that answers the call and does the work in your EHR.
Dialpad's own description is an "AI platform for customer experience" that brings together contact center, communications and AI agents. Healthcare is one of the industries it serves. Caesar is built for medical practices only.
If you need a contact center with queues and analytics, read the Dialpad half of this page closely. If you need the call finished in the EHR, read the Caesar half.
Where the chart comes in
Dialpad publishes real chart connections, mostly through a partner. As read on 9 October 2026:
- Epic. A connector "powered by NovelVox" with screen pops that match the caller to a patient record, and call logging in Epic Cheers "tied to the right patient record."
- athenahealth. Dialpad's listing says patient details "appear automatically as soon as a call or chat begins." A separate athenaOne listing says it opens the chart and logs calls.
- NextGen. Real-time read and write, including call notes and appointments.
- Other EHRs. eClinicalWorks, Veradigm, Oracle Health and MEDITECH listings describe patient context during calls.
Dialpad says the Epic and NextGen connectors need a Dialpad Support plan, with "billing and support" from NovelVox. Dialpad says its open API and webhooks are for teams that build their own connection.
Caesar's agent works another way. On a call or a text it finds the patient, searches your live open slots, and books, reschedules or cancels in athenahealth, ModMed or EZDERM. Faxes are read, classified and filed to the patient's chart. Filing to athenahealth is live today.

Where Dialpad is strong, plainly
It is a full contact center. Queues, skills-based routing, in-queue callback, analytics and coaching are published for Dialpad Support. A multi-site call center with a trained team can use all of it.
It connects to large EHRs. Epic, NextGen, athenahealth and Oracle Health all have a listing. If your practice runs Epic, Dialpad has a published route that Caesar does not.
Porting is included. Dialpad says "number porting support comes included in all of Dialpad's plans," with local numbers ported in three to five business days.
Phone, text and fax sit under one BAA. Dialpad says virtual fax needs no separate BAA. Its trust page says SOC 2 Type II compliant.
Choose Dialpad if…
You run a contact center with queues and reporting. You are on Epic and want screen pops and call logging. You want one vendor for calling, meetings, texting and fax across the whole company, not only the practice.
Choose Caesar Health if…
You run a practice, not a call center. You want the call answered and the appointment booked in your EHR without a person touching it. You run athenahealth, ModMed or EZDERM. You get faxes that must be read and filed to the right chart.
Caesar runs beside Dialpad too. Forward the calls you want the agent to answer, and keep Dialpad for the desk.
What to ask on either demo
- Call the line and book a visit. What is on the patient's chart afterward that nobody typed?
- Text the patient and send a fax. Which of them reach the chart?
- What does the connector cost, who bills it, and which plan does it need?
- What does the practice do at 9 p.m. when no one answers?
Frequently asked questions
Is Caesar Health an alternative to Dialpad?
For a medical practice's calls, texts and faxes, yes. Caesar answers calls, books in the EHR and files faxes to the chart. It is not a contact center product, and Caesar's staff phone, with a softphone, extensions and ring groups, is in pilot.
Is Dialpad HIPAA compliant?
Dialpad says its products are "HIPAA-ready" and that eligible healthcare customers can sign a Business Associate Agreement. Its pages describe compliance as shared between Dialpad and the practice. Ask for the BAA's list of covered products. See the HIPAA-compliant phone system guide.
Does Dialpad link calls to the patient chart?
Dialpad lists connectors for Epic, athenahealth and NextGen that pop a patient record and log calls. Epic and NextGen need a Dialpad Support plan and a NovelVox connector. Ask which EHR and plan you would need.
Does Dialpad have an AI receptionist?
Yes. Dialpad's pages describe AI Agents that greet callers after hours, answer common questions and hand off to staff with a transcript. They describe scheduling with calendars and CRMs. They don't describe booking into an EHR. Ask Dialpad to show a booking in yours.
Does Dialpad offer fax?
Yes. Virtual fax is an add-on on the Connect plans and needs a fax license. Dialpad's pages don't describe a fax being filed to a patient chart.
How much does Dialpad cost?
Dialpad prices per user, per month, with AI Agents sold as conversation credits. Its current prices are at dialpad.com/pricing. Caesar's pricing is on the pricing page.
Can I keep my Dialpad number and use Caesar?
Yes. Forward the calls you want the agent to answer. Your Dialpad number stays where it is.
